Triple Nickel Ride 2016 (May 27 - 30, 2016)

For the third year members of the Great Lakes Road Riders travel to Eastern Ohio and West Virginia for what is called the Triple Nickel (555) Ride. The trip is based in Marietta Ohio on the border with West Virginia.

The ride started Friday in Saginaw Michigan and traveled to Canton Michigan where I met several members at a Tim Horton's.  From there the group traveled south into Ohio and then southeast to the Parkside Restaurant & Tavern in Mt Vernon, Ohio for lunch before continuing to Marietta on Hwy 555 and 676.

On Saturday we traveled into West Virginia to the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in Weston. A state run hospital for over 100 years, the building is now a tourist attraction. The ride to and from Weston included some very nice roads with lots of curves.

Sunday's ride included a loop of some of Ohio's best roads. A run on highway 26 is always fun while the 147 offered nice sweepers.

Monday took us home to Michigan on more back roads and through many small towns. On a couple of occasions, we were almost the beginning of a towns Memorial Day Parade.

The 555, 676, 26, 147 and 556 offer many great sweepers, hairpins and elevation changes to challenge any rider.

Overall a Great ride, great time, and great company.

	The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, subsequently the Weston State Hospital, was a Kirkbride psychiatric hospital that operated from 1864 until 1994.

	Some of the things you could be admitted for: Domestic Trouble, Self Abuse, Women, Dog bite, Bad Company (the band?), Crime, Worms, Gas, Bad Habits I know a few people that fit some of these. Glad they are not still open.

	Our second day ride took us by a couple of covered bridges. This is one stop.
