Americade 2014 (June 2 - 7, 2014)

Billed as the largest multi-brand touring motorcycle rally in the world, Americade is held each year in Lake George New York. Boasting 100 thousand strong, bikes are everywhere.  Offering great riding opportunities in the Adirondack mountains and the surround area, there is fun to be had both on and off the bike.  This was my wife and my first Americade and there was much to see and do.  From seminars to demo rides to guide tours, the week was kept busy.

We arrived Monday June 2 to register and pick up our event tickets. That day featured a new-comers meeting and open ceremony dinner and prize give away.  My wide walked away with a new set of Kenda tires and several excellent motorcycle books by whitehorse press including Clement Salvadori's 101 Road Tales and Staying Safe by Lawrence Grodsky.

Tuesday was a couple of seminars on accident management and intersections and an afternoon walking through the 200 plus vendors in attendance at the rally. Dinner at the Lobster Pot was excellent, but our evening activities were shortened by a steady rain.

Wednesday morning was sunny and warm and we were off on a 7 lake guided tour and catered lunch at the Silver Bay YMCA resort followed by dinner in Lake George at the Barnside Barbeue.

Thursday featured a guided tour of covered bridges in New York and Vermont and catered lunch at Mt Anthony Country Club in Bennington Vermont . That evening we watched all the activities along the main street and a light parade later that evening. A light rain did not dampen the spirits of the thousands of party goers.

Friday was demo rides on a CanAm Spyder and a new Indian Classic cruiser followed by an afternoon ride around Lake George and lunch in Bolton's Landing.  The ride was cut short as the road was closed due to a serious accident, so it was back to town, a last run through the vendors and dinner before the closing ceremonies and grand prize drawings.  Fireworks followed with live music in the "Big Top" tent before we retired to our hotel room to get ready to head home the next day.

Saturday we headed to Buffalo for the nights stay and a afternoon trip to Niagara Falls before continuing on home Sunday June 8.

The eight day trip cover 1,800+ miles, many memories and a longing to go back for a second dose of Lake George and Americade.
