My Home Automation system begins with an X-10 CP290 Computer Control interface. The device is set up from a PC compatible computer through a serial port and is then disconnected (PC listed below). The Interface sends signals over existing house wiring to control lights and appliances connected to X-10 Modules. I have had the house computerized for over 15 years. My basic system consists of:

  • 1 - Computer Control interface
  • 2 - Mini Controllers
  • 2 - Wall Switch Modules
  • 2 - Appliance Modules
  • 6 - Lamp Modules

The Windows based software software allows programming of each module and to schedule daily events that turn lights and appliances on or off at set times or at dawn and dusk. I have grouped several events together to create macros for special events for the Spring/Fall, Summer and Winter seasons. I also have one for Vacations to give that lived in look.

An IBM Home Director was added to the starter system above in March of '99. It included:

  • 4 - Lamp Modules
  • 1 - 3-pin Appliance Module
  • 1 - Wall Switch
  • 1 - Remote Module
  • 1 - Mini Controller
